I had to work 2 days this week, but other than that I was on holiday. My mission was clear: work out what I want to do with my life. Well, after lots of time sitting in cafes drinking frappes, eating baklava and having a big old think about what I really want to do, I’ve finally got a plan:

Plan A: Marry Into Money

  1. Find very rich woman
  2. Court and seduce
  3. Propose and marry
  4. Live life of leisure from a yacht in the mediterranean

Plan B: Find a Patron

  1. Find rich old person with interest in the arts
  2. Sit with them in their ancestral home and wax lyrical about ancient ideas of England, class and heritage
  3. Write them a poem every 6 weeks in exchange for a generous allowance
  4. Live life of leisure from a yacht in the mediterranean

Plan C: Set myself up as a charity

  1. Create emotive advert about how there is only 1 James Howell-Jones left in the wild and for £5 a month etc etc.
  2. Establish a base of donors
  3. Live life of leisure from a yacht in the mediterranean

Plan D: (truly last resort stuff at this point) Establish myself as a writer/journo, initially in the cycling niche

  1. Email a load of freelance writers and get a bit of a network started
  2. Write a shit ton of articles and pieces about interesting topics, post on website
  3. Send out some pieces in the hope of getting a few guest features
  4. Eventually make a name for myself
  5. Live a life of leisure from a yacht in the mediterranean

A belt and braces plan, if you ask me. I’m reasonably confident at least one of those plans will succeed. We shall see.

This week has given me a sweet sweet taste of the life of leisure, but it has also given me an insatiable taste for frappes and baklava. Both are extremely tasty and addictive. I now wake with a 1 track mind for sugar and caffeine that sees me prowling the Vasiliki waterfront desperately asking, ‘έχεις μπακλαβά?’ (do you have baklava – everyone does frappes so no need to ask)

I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness, starving hysterical naked,

dragging themselves through the negro streets at dawn looking for an angry fix…

I’ve also windsurfed or wing foiled loooadds, and I’ve attached a video of me doing both, so you can see how much of a legend ya boi is on a board (lol jk). Attempted my first aerial 360s on Thursday and Rob got a few of my attempts on camera.

Next week, I’m going further afield and seeing some more of Greece. First Kefalonia, then Athens. Will be fun fun fun.

Love

James
